How it works

Step 1: Generate your API credentials

Create your API credentials in Upflow settings to securely authenticate your integration.

Step 2: Explore the documentation

Review the interactive API reference, test endpoints in the sandbox, and explore example requests.

Step 3: Build your integration

Use the REST API to sync key data such as customers, invoices, payments, and contacts between Upflow and your systems.

Step 4: Launch and optimize

Deploy your integration to production, monitor usage, and continue extending it as your workflows evolve.

How it works

"It has quite a few native integrations available “out of the box” which makes the setup very smooth.

In our case, we had one local accounting tool which didn’t have a native integration and the team at Upflow worked closely with us to find a 3rd party integrator that could develop the integration."

The REST API lets you connect any system to Upflow and layer custom logic onto your setup. Teams commonly use it to push customers, invoices, contacts, and payments from a homegrown or unsupported billing system, feed AR data into a warehouse like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift for reporting, open support tickets in tools like Zendesk or Intercom when a dispute is logged, and trigger escalation actions such as restricting app access at a certain collection stage.
Every request is authenticated with two headers, X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret. Administrators generate these credentials from the Settings menu under API, and you can create separate keys for each environment so testing stays isolated from production.
You can work with customers, contacts, invoices, credit notes, payments, and custom fields. Upflow enforces referential integrity, so a customer must exist before the invoices, contacts, credit notes, or payments that reference it. The recommended order is customers first, then contacts, then invoices and credit notes, and finally payments.
Yes, and this is a common pattern. When your financial data already flows in through a native integration such as NetSuite or QuickBooks, the API sits on top to extend it, letting you enrich records with custom fields, manage dunning plans, read data for reporting, and connect Upflow events to your other tools.
Yes. It is a public but fully authenticated API, so every request requires your API key and secret, and access is scoped to your organization. Financial data stays encrypted and protected in transit.
