Quickstart
- Turn on code execution in Claude. Users with Free, Pro, and Max accounts can find it under Settings → Capabilities. Team accounts have it on by default. Enterprise accounts need an owner to switch it on.
- Download the skill. Upload the file as it is, without unzipping it: go to Customize → Skills, click +, then “Create skill”, then “Upload a skill”.
- Toggle the skill on.
- Start a chat, attach your Balance Sheet and Income Statement exports, and type: “Create an investor report.”
- Answer the questions about your highlights, lowlights, and your ask, and your report arrives as HTML and a PDF you can download.
Inputs
Two exports:
- Balance Sheet: cash, accounts receivable, deferred revenue.
- Income Statement: revenue and net income. Subscription lines are read in preference to a blended total.
If you have no exports, you can type the numbers instead. Claude asks one at a time, and offers ranges if you would rather not give exact figures.
Three qualitative questions Claude asks:
- One or two highlights from the period.
- One or two lowlights or challenges.
- Your ask, what you need from investors.
Optional extras sharpen the analysis. Provide any, all, or none:
- Cash Flow Statement: gives real operating cash burn instead of an estimate from net income.
- Last period’s statements: unlock growth and trends.
- AR aging CSV: folds collections detail into the cash section.
- Your logo and brand color.
The report
Each run produces an HTML report and a PDF built from the same template, so the two always match. You get:
- Status summary: one line on how the period went.
- Key metrics up front: revenue with growth, cash, burn or net income, and runway.
- Margin cascade: where revenue lands, from total revenue through gross profit and operating income to net income.
- Balance sheet position and receivables detail, when the data is there.
- Highlights, and lowlights framed as what happened, why it matters, and the plan.
- What’s next, and one clear ask.
How the report is structured
Every report follows the standard market format investors expect, modeled on the YC and Visible “Standard” template.
| Section | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Status summary | One line on how the period went |
| Key metrics | Revenue plus growth, cash, burn or net income, runway |
| Metric detail | Margin cascade, balance sheet, receivables, cash bridge |
| Highlights | The wins, stated specifically |
| Lowlights | What happened, why it matters, the plan |
| What's next | Priorities for the coming period |
| The ask | One direct, actionable request |
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Fix |
|---|---|
| The skill never runs | Check code execution is on, and that the skill is toggled on under Customize → Skills. |
| No PDF produced | Have Claude install WeasyPrint. The HTML is written first and is always available. |
| You don't have every number | Give what you have. Claude asks for the rest one at a time, and skips anything you don't know. |
| No prior-period data | The update skips growth and trends rather than inventing them. Add last period's statements to unlock them. |
| Revenue looks too high | Claude used your total revenue line, which includes services and one-off charges. Point Claude to your subscription revenue line instead |
| Your logo doesn't appear | Use PNG, JPG, or SVG. Anything else is skipped, and you still get the report. |
No. The skill is free and runs on its own inside Claude.
No. The skill reads your statements inside your Claude session. It does not connect to your systems or send anything to Upflow.
No. This is your document, going to your investors. It carries your logo and brand color if you add them, and no Upflow mark either way.
No, but they help. Typed numbers work fine. Exports give exact figures instead of estimates, and pull in balance sheet detail you would otherwise have to enter manually.
No. It is optional. The update is built from your statements or the numbers you provide; an aging export only adds collections detail to the cash section.
The standard format investors expect: metrics first, honest about challenges, one clear ask. It is modeled on the YC and Visible “Standard” template.
